Botox is a non-surgical FDA approved cosmetic procedure that helps restore your youthfull look. Since it's clearance by the FDA in 2002, it has become the single most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the United States. Botox injection is a very safe and effective procedure that is made of a natural purified protein designed to relax facial muscles. It is used for the treatment of:
•Frown lines
•Forehead furrows
•Crow's feet
•Nasal muscles to decrease nostril flaring
At Skin Concepts Laser Center, all injectables are performed by a physician. The effects of the injections, initially, can be expected to last from 3-4 months. The duration of effect should increase (6+ months) with subsequent treatments as the facial muscles begin to atrophy from disuse. The results are not immediate but should be realized within a few days. The results can be dramatic.

Botox® FAQ'S:
1. What is Botox?
Botox is a purified protein that temporarily improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is a cosmetic procedure that is simple, safe and effective for improving fine lines and wrinkles commonly called frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines and crows feet.

2. How does it work?
Botox prevents the release of a substance called acetylcholine in a nerve-muscle junction. Acetylcholine is used by the brain to signal a muscle to contract. By preventing the release of this substance, muscles do not receive the brain signal to contract improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles which occur every time one smiles, laughs or frowns.

3. How long does it last?
Results may last between 3-6 months. Additional touch-ups are performed as needed. Over time, fewer treatments are required due to muscle training and muscle disuse.

4. How does it compare to other collagen and filler materials?
Botox treats the underlying cause of wrinkles. It prevents the contraction of the muscles, which create wrinkles and lines. Collagen and filler materials improve wrinkles by expanding the tissue underneath the skin, improving the appearance of such lines and folds.

8. Are there risks or side effects?
Risks are rare, but when they occur are mild and temporary. These risks may include redness, swelling, or mild drooping of the eyelid if an adjacent muscle is affected by the Botox agent. This occurs in as little as 1 out of 100 clients. Again, symptoms are rare, mild, and temporary.
